Back to the Basics

Las night I did a little spa night starting with a hair oil/massage by my husband using an Indian Almond oil.  This makes my hair so shiny and smells good too:)  I have heard that the massaging of the hair helps it grow too..maybe wrong, but it still feels really good:)
Then, I did a natural honey/oat mask inspired by Glamour magazine that I really LOVED!  I have decided that I will do these once a month...the mask is supposed to help hydrate and I need all of the hydration living here in Tucson, AZ.
But, the BIG/HUGE result came from a product I got from Clinique last week during the department store giveaway due to the lawsuit against lines like Clinique that I guess were putting prices higher than they should.  Anyway, the point is I got a product, Moisture Surge worth $46 that I might have never bought and used it last night and it is truly heaven!  I had my hubby feel my face and he wanted some on since my skin felt so soft, so I had to share:)  It's a great option to use daily or use as a 5 minute moisture mask.  You can feel how soft your skin is, but there is no greasy feel like vaseline (that my grandmother and  mom use to keep their skin perfect).

Clinique Online (ELC)
Sidenote: I have also started using Dove Beauty bar again...I figure it is the softest, most natural soap I can use right now with no additives and I LOVE it after my first use last night:)

Kate Spade, Inspired???

The style name of this handbag which is apart of the luscious, luxurious line, Sullivan Street is Blakely...the first thing I thought of was my fave actress from tonights, "Gossip Girl," Blake Lively.  I could be WAY off...but, it's still fun to speculate:)  I could see the girls on GG wearing these handbags on the show!
There is also a hotel in New York called, Blakely---but, who is searching:)
But, the Sybella style steals my heart this season with Kate Spade...I love the vintage styling.

Prescriptives All Skins

Getting to know the product:) Don't you love technology today?

Cover Beauty

I am talking about foundation.  I have never been one that is able to wear foundation...I could never find a color that would match my mixed skin that can't really be labelled and it always felt so heavy on my face....but, there are days when I truly need some coverage when I have a "bump" (ok, zit) or my skin isn't looking its best and I need a little help from a coverage to make my color look even.  Prescriptives has custom-blended foundation that can do just that....the brand can actually resemble my in between color (for those who don't know I am black and white:).

Like I said, I really don't wear foundation unless I go in and get my makeup done and the artist insists that I need to have some...so,  Jillian Veran, Prescriptives Director of Artistry answered the BIG question of what you need to use to apply foundation.  See a portion of the interview answering this question below:

  • Applying foundation is a personal preference and each method creates a different finish. Using your fingers will allow for a sheerer finish; a sponge is a little tricky for a non-makeup artist as it can place a lot of foundation in one spot so be sure to move quickly across the areas you are applying to; a brush is always great as it helps you create a very smooth even finish.
  • Also, I always recommend using the Px Buff Brush after your foundation is dry to soften the look of the makeup and create a sheer air brushed effect.
Also, right now, if you purchase a Prescriptives foundation during the All Skins promo, they will give you a foundation brush with the purchase of any foundation (worth $17).

Blog News, or New Blogs

I am always excited to share new blogs that I have encountered.
Not only had I never seen a blog on tumblr, but I didn't realize a fashion friend of mine had a blog!  You have to check this blog out today to get a passionate view of what a fashionista craves from how to find a coveted item, to what she might even make!!!!  Plus, quotes galore sharing her thoughts on the day:)
Check out another candid blog by the owner of Collage Boutique checking out all of her fave looks and her fun outings.
This is honestly my new MUST-HAVE check site everyday!  I am now searching everywhere for the Spanish edition of Glamour magazine because of this blog.  Check this blog out today---I swear you will be addicted!  The model/fashion lover shares all of her flicks for a day...inspiring grand looks for us to create:)

Fashion in Commercials

I am LOVING the styling in commercials right now...they just keep catching my eye when I am not forwarding through my DVR'ed shows so I had to share:)  I am also always loving the DKNY ads...oddly, I never purchase the clothes, but I LOVE the styling.  PERFECT!  The Sartorialist shot these ads for the DKNY this spring...

This is a BIG year for the Sartorialist, from just posting pics on his journey's to VOGUE using his shots, then ads, and now, a book is expected this year compiling all of his fabulous images.  This just proves that HUGE things can happen for people who share their passions with everyone via blogs!

Dress it Down...well, at least the price

I was reading a Glamour magazine blog about fab dresses under $50 and I had to share two of the dresses that sparked my attention.
The first, a Speigel dress that has the sheath silhouette that I seem to be all over right now with a matching color belt and added pocket detail to make this a-not-so-basic sheath dress...I am staying with the bright colors though with the orange hue as my first choice.  The Glamour choice was the winter white.
The second, looks like it is on sale, so I have to get it soon, but the Gap dress has the bat sleeve that has caught my eye recently.
*For both dresses, I would add a different color skinny belt to change the look.  But, both can do with the belt that comes with it.
This all brings me to agree with the JC Report article, "Are the Glossies Losing Their Luster."  I still get every issue out there and just get inspired...that is what has always been about for me anyway:)

Disappointment...

As a black woman, I am really disappointed about reading on New York Magazine that the Black Artists Association plans on filing an appeal to Michelle Obama's office for not wearing a black designer for the inauguration festivities.  I really can't believe this.  I don't see the need for Michelle to wear a black designer just because she is black.  What is the need?  What does it prove?  She chose a young, Asian, (which I might add is a minority in the US) male designer...I LOVE fashion...but, I agree with the ladies on the View today...why is there such a focus on fashion for her?  There is more to her than what she wears...get over it.  Sorry all....it just really makes me irritated.  There can be many positive things that come from Michelle O's fashion front (helping young designers, enhancing the economy with people shopping for looks they love on Michelle O), but there is no need for negativity.  This is the beginning of history being made-lets keep the pettiness to a minimum.

Gap-a-licious

Tassel's are literally EVERYWHERE this season...I LOVE tassel's and I want to literally create my own designs:)
I LOVE this...a great option for cover-up.  I would add a belt to create some edge with this look.
This is a classic find that will be timeless in your wardrobe.
I usually don't like these type of colors---but, this is too cute to pass up...
Love the color!  And love the combo of a girly dress with the wooden sandals that edge.
LOVE-LOVE-LOVE-LOVE-LOVE-LOVE-LOVE-LOVE-LOVE-LOVE-LOVE-LOVE-LOVE-LOVE

Gap takes turns to catch my fancy...and it looks like spring will be my new connection with the long-time store.  I am LOVING shift dresses this spring in bright, vibrant colors.

Converted from Skirts to Pants...

I am very well-known for wearing skirts and dresses...but, with the variety of new style trousers I think I have been converted.  We will see if the styles are complimentary of my body type and it's on:)  This weeks magazine article on NET-A-PORTER helped convert me full on!  I have clippings from all of my magazines on the styles of pants I want this season...but, with pieces like this, you can make it timeless so it is seasonless and beyond any one-time trend.  I LOVE the styling of the Net-a-porter article and I LOVE every trouser...I love the magenta trousers with red shoes, the cropped trouser, the harem style trouser---it's just endless.  I need to also go for a high-waist skinny jean or high-waist straight leg.  Now, it's on:)

Drop in Prices

I was flipping through swatches and was reminded of stylists turned designers, Miss Davenporte.  The line is sold on Revolve Clothing and has great clearance prices-I had to share.
From $334 to $59
From $336 to $68
From $312 to $78

You Gotta Have Feith: Something to Look Forward to From What's All Over the News

I have been avoiding writing about Michelle O because everyone, including news broadcasters are so engrossed in what Michelle Obama is wearing.  I was excited when I heard that she was wearing J. Crew, but today, I fell in love with what she wore to the morning prayer service.  The frock is from Tracy Feith who excitingly enough will be one of the Go International designers soon!  I had never heard of the designer before, but this is a wonderful found gem that I had to share.

NAMES TO KNOW

Trends remaining this spring are the gladiator and the color, YELLOW-Cynthia Vincent has a fab version of this trend for $200 on Sway and Cake.  I love the layers of the straps...it's also all about the straps this spring with cage styles and looks like this where there are just extra details to make styles look new.
I have always said that David Yurman was introduced to me when I moved to NYC and quickly replaced Tiffany's...I still do not own anything DY, but every time I see the style, I can pick it out from across the room.  I LOVE this earring that has the yellow stone and has the DY styling, but is actually not a David Yurman original.
I saw a Mara Hoffman dress at Buffalo Exchange today for only $18 and couldn't decide if it was a name I knew...well, I of course researched and the designer has great pieces at mid-level prices...so, the $18 was REALLY good...but, since I am not sure if I would wear the style a lot, I will show restraint:)

More Spring Dreams

I know most are thinking it's too cold in most of the US to be thinking of spring.  Well, for those, cozy on up with some furry boots to keep you warm while we look at some fun things for the spring.
Nude is the color for stems this spring.  The great thing about nude shoes is that it elongates ladies legs...so whether you are wearing nude pumps or nude high heel sandals, make sure that the nude you wear matches your skin tone...too light or too dark defeats the whole purpose to elongate:)  These shoes are the spring's new black---they go with everything!
For all of your spring getaways it is essential to get a fab weekender bag that can take you to any location with the up-most organization.  This bag is not only cute, but it can pack a variety of items from the inside compartment to the outside pockets.

Sharing is Caring: Magazine File

Anytime I am in a waiting area I am quick to skim every magazine.  Today, I finally went to get my mani/pedi after at least 2 months I think!!!!!!  This will not happen again:)  And I took notes from a variety of mags that I had to share.
Cute shoes that you can pay for right now!!!!!!!!
Designer: Michael Antonio (I know that I see this brand in a lot of boutiques across the U.S., but i also found this on a site called Cutesygirl)
Price: $28.99
Carolee---jewelry inspired by the right women...for today, there were styles on the homepage in honor of the inauguration.  Jackie O and Michelle O donning timeless pieces
at a fraction of the price.
Bing Bang-Sold on ShopBop...good prices, with unique designs.

LEVI's ONE DAY SALE for the Inauguration

I LOVE the high waist on these skinny jeans...I was reading PEOPLE Style Watch and they were saying that high waist was out...not for me:)
The relaxed boyfriend fit jeans remains strong this season...so keep what you have and get a pair if you don't:)

I had to share, if I was to take advantage of this AMAZING deal, I would be able to purchase 6 items for only $150!  Tell me that is not SCARY good:)  Three pairs of jeans (1 male), 2 tees (male/female), and a belt....such a good deal, check it out today...you have to spend $15o to get the sale, but it is worth it after you see all you get the discount!

HAUTELOOK OVERLOAD

I feel like every mailing list is sending me emails about deals on Haute Look...today, the company sent me an email (I am a member) about Lauren Conrad's pieces...I thought, ok, I know the prices dropped really, really LOW on the Lauren site, so, I figured I would check it out.  And, the prices just didn't SCREAM deal to me...I guess for someone who doesn't want to search the sites it can be like a sample sale...but, these prices just didn't make me feel a sale price worth buying...but, I will keep watching and stay positive about the site:)

Must Have

More to come in following blog.

Fashion Classic Must-Have: The September Issue

I know most of us have watched Unzipped---I still need to purchase it for my fashion DVD collection, but there was a Sundance film that I was sadly unaware of until just now that I think we all need to ensure that we get our hands on.  It is called, "The September Issue" and will cover all things Anna Wintour and VOGUE...what could be more ESSENTIAL to any fashionista?  I am going to check and make sure I still own the September issue of VOGUE for 2007...if not, I will have to go to Bookman's and purchase it right away!  Watch out ELLE and MC tv, reality programs, this is as REAL as it gets:)

Absolutely LOVE the Beckham Armani AD

I can so appreciate Victoria in this ad...she reminds me of Elizabeth Taylor...well, a less curvy...but, still she has got the drama in her eyes here...Watch out David ads...I think this is stepping up:)  This makes me want to pick up my copy of "That Extra Half An Inch.":)

The Look for WAY LESS: Alberta Ferretti v. Isaac Mizrahi Target

I was eyeballing a online sale item for Isaac Mizrahi last week and still on my search through dresses on Net-a-Porter, I come across an Alberta Ferretti dress that is all too similar to not share...so, share I shall:)
Net-a-Porter
Price: $1470
Target
Designer: Isaac Mizrahi
Price: (SALE) $9.99

Just Because: Pleat Front Dress

Just because I just bought a camel pleat front dress from J. Crew for a mere $19.99 and since I was surfing the dresses on Net-a-Porter to get a fabric inspiration for my fabric store outing manana, I had to share the ever-popular style that I have encountered for a reasonable price if I might say so myself:)
Speaking of Net-a-Porter, I have to say that I am sad to inform that I don't have a lot of information, but that I have read in other blogs that I read everyday like NY Mag and Fashionologie that Net-a-Porter will have an online outlet called the OutNet to share sample sale prices to all it's customers COMING SOON (in Feb).  I will confirm dates and details once I receive a press release.

Ok, so I was flipping through People Style Watch (the Feb issue) and got super excited about all of the designers that are coming for the spring at low-price options!  But, I have to add that most of the labels are at great sale prices right now that you really can't say no to either...so, have fun!
